Hope woke up the next morning with an ache in her back after having slept on a small lounge chair for most of the night. It was still storming outside, and frankly she only realized it was morning because of the time on her phone. “It’s still so dark outside,” she groaned as she slowly pulled herself out of her chair. Everyone else who had slept around the lobby seemed creaky and drowsy as well. Faith, however, was missing. Just as Donald started to ask where she was, she came strutting in with a big smile on her face.

“I slept wonderfully,” she sang.

“Where did you wander off to in the middle of the night?” Donald questioned, standing up and stretching his back until they all heard a loud cracking sound that sent a shiver up their spines.

“I couldn’t sleep in those chairs, so I went around looking for something else. There is a massage place downstairs, so I slept on one of the massage beds. Not the softest thing, but it sure was nice to actually be able to lay down without lying on the nasty floor,” Faith explained.

Hope, who now had a terrible crick in her neck, groaned. “Wish you had woken me up and told me about those beds.”

“You looked comfortable when I left,” Faith said. “Ugh, any food left? I’m starving.”

“I mean, the vending machine still has plenty of snacks lying around in it,” Alexander said. “Just watch out for the glass.”

“Perfect,” she said.

Hope started towards her. “I’ll go with you. We can bring back stuff for everybody.”

“Perfect,” Faith repeated, and the two of them began walking down the dark hallway.

Once they were out of ear shot of the rest of their group, Hope elected to question Faith about what she had found the night before. “Listen, Faith, last night when I was in the break room with Logan’s body, I came across his cellphone, and I saw these texts between the two of you.”

Faith groaned. “Ugh…” she said in a way that suggested Faith knew exactly what Hope was getting at. “Yeah, that was like a month ago. He had convinced himself I was only dating Donald for his money, and he decided to try to prove it by offering me all this money to break things off with him.”

“Yeah, I saw that,” Hope said. “But you refused.”

“Yeah, because unlike what everyone in the world seems to think, I’m not actually dating the guy for his money. I like Donald. I mean, I’m not stupid, I know he’s not exactly the most… the best looker…” She laughed slightly when she said this. “But he’s really just a big teddy bear. He treats me well, and unlike Logan he respects me. He considers me an equal. We talk books a lot. We both love reading. We travel together. He’s my prince charming, but for some reason just because he’s rich and a little older than me everyone thinks… well…”

Hope smiled at her. “You don’t have to explain yourself to me.
